The truth about your “luxury” pillowcase materials
Silk feels fancy. Bamboo sounds eco. But when we set out to design the smartest pillowcase for clean skin and better sleep, we tested everything.
And guess what? Silk and bamboo didn’t make the cut. Here’s why — and why we chose TENCEL™ instead.
Silk: Luxurious, Yes. Practical or Ethical? Not Even Close.
Silk has long been seen as the fabric of luxury. But let’s be honest — it’s not made for real life. Here’s why:
- It’s expensive
- It’s delicate and stains easily
- It needs high-maintenance care
- It’s not breathable, trapping moisture and bacteria
And worst of all? It’s not ethical. Traditional silk often requires boiling silkworms alive to extract their threads — a harsh process hidden behind a shiny label.
Washing silk every two nights? Not happening. And if you care about animals or your skin, it's time to think again.
That’s why we chose TENCEL™ — soft as silk, but cleaner, more breathable, and 100% plant-based.
Bamboo: Great Idea. Questionable Execution.
Bamboo sounds like a dream: it grows fast, needs little water, and doesn’t rely on pesticides. On the surface, it’s sustainable.
But here’s the catch — most bamboo fabric isn’t what it claims to be.
It’s usually turned into viscose rayon, which involves toxic solvents like carbon disulfide. These chemicals are harmful not just to workers, but to the environment too — often released into waterways during production. That’s a huge sustainability red flag.
And while it might feel soft at first? That comfort fades.
After a few washes, bamboo fabric can stiffen, lose its smooth feel, and start holding moisture — which creates the perfect environment for bacteria. Not exactly skin-friendly.
So while bamboo looks green on paper, the reality is far more grey.
That’s why we chose TENCEL™ — a closed-loop, eco-certified fabric that stays soft, breathable, and better for you and the planet.
Cotton: Familiar, But Far from Flawless.
Cotton is the fabric we all know. It’s breathable, natural, and feels safe. But conventional cotton comes with a hidden cost — and it’s not just on the price tag.
Here’s the truth: It’s one of the thirstiest crops on the planet, needing thousands of litres of water just to produce a single kilo of fabric.
It’s heavily dependent on pesticides and fertilizers, which can pollute soil and waterways, harming ecosystems and nearby communities.
Comfort-wise, cotton can be soft — but it’s not consistently so.
It wrinkles easily, doesn’t stay cool in humid climates, and can feel rougher over time.
That’s why we went with TENCEL™: a fabric that uses up to 50% less water, no toxic chemicals, and is produced in a closed-loop system that recycles everything. Soft from day one — and still soft after the 50th wash.

So why TENCEL™?
TENCEL™ is made from sustainably sourced eucalyptus trees.
But more importantly, it’s:
-
Naturally soft (even softer than bamboo or cotton)
-
Breathable and moisture-wicking (great for night sweat)
-
Hypoallergenic and OEKO-TEX® certified (no toxins)
-
Durable enough for frequent washing without losing softness
It's basically the dream material for people who want clean, fresh sleep — every night.
We didn’t want luxury that felt high-maintenance.
We wanted luxury that worked for you.
So we skipped the delicate stuff.
And chose something better.
For your skin. For your routine. For your sleep.
